Borba: Beauty From Within
Have you guys heard of Borba yet? I remember the first time I saw it, I was in Sephora in Boston, and there was a refrigerator off to the corner filled with bottled drinks. HUH?
Borba’s philosophy is that beauty starts from within, so they’ve developed drinks, drink powders and candies that include vitamins, minerals and botanical ingredients to get your skin looking its best. The line expanded to include topical products (i.e. moisturizers, cleansers, etc.)…basically your more conventional beauty products.
I’m not sure how I feel about Borba yet. Being Asian, my family’s always believed in the philosophy of “you are what you eat.” You know, good and bad “qi” and all that. And I’ll have to say that I do buy into the belief. But I may have to draw the line when “buying” into something means shelling out $150 for a one month supply of the stuff.
So I was given a couple samples by the Borba PR people to test out for the blog. They sent me one bottle of the Borba Skin Balance Water, which tasted okay. It wasn’t the greatest thing in the world, but it also didn’t make me barf or anything.
However, since I was only given one, and I refuse to pay loads of my own money to see if it actually works, you’ll just have to be satisfied with my half-baked analysis of the bottled drinks. Heh.
They also sent me a 7-day supply of these powder packets (or if you want to get all clinical, Borba Skin Balance Aqua-Less Crystalline in the Skin Calming formula) that you mix into liquids and drink.
I haven’t tried these yet because the box says that you should consult your doctor prior to use if you’re on any medication, pregnant or nursing. I’m none of the latter two, but I am - without getting too personal - on birth control pills. So really, the last thing I would like is to get pregnant while testing out the powder.
Can you imagine? That could be a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. In ten years, we could have an entire breed of Borba babies!! Hahaha.
Anyways, I’ll keep you guys updated if I actually try the powders out, but first I have to get hold of my gynecologist. In the meantime, if any of you have tried Borba, give us the scoop!

I reviewed this for SheFinds. I got 2 bottles of the water, a box full of the purple packets and some skincare (which isn’t bad btw) but the water just kinda tasted funny and I’m with you, I am not buying anymore to see if it works….LOL

I actually received a moisturizer too…but haven’t gotten to use it yet since I have about 10 other things in the queue that I need to try out in the meantime. It’s times like these that I wish I had, like, 20 heads to accomodate this blog! LOL.

I actually got two samples of this from Sephora (it’s what they were giving at the time) and when I got home and read the package it seems so clinical/chemical that I decided against putting any of it in my body. I mean nutraceuticals?? The more I interact with pharmaceuticals the more evil I think they are. Also, if you read the directions, it talks about how the powder “activates” and changes color “upon contact with clear liquid”. I know they’re trying to go for some scientific angle with the copy but it just strikes me as ALL WRONG.

Eeek - changes color? I didn’t notice that part!
Part of me is scared of trying it, but part of me is wondering if they’re just trying to sell a glorified version of Flintstones Vitamins, you know what I mean?

Christina, a brilliant observation. It is probably just a glorified version of Flintstones vitamins, complete with food coloring to make it seem “activated”. No matter what they say, these products won’t help your skin better than a good old skin cream or moisturizer.
