Hair Care Dare - Update #4

Checking in again with y’all on the Hair Care Dare. I’m still hanging in there despite a few thoughts of caving in. I can’t believe I haven’t shampoo’ed my hair in two weeks!! Totally creepy, but kinda cool.

Anyway, my hair seems to be adjusting better with each passing day. But I also have off days — it’s probably just the horrendous heat though.

I’ve settled on using Pantene conditioner despite the -cone ingredient in it because it does seem to work. Why ruin a good thing - especially since I don’t know what the -cone does?? (I’m letting my ignorance be bliss.)

By the way, I emailed reader Jessica, who was catalyst for the challenge. She speaks out! Read here.

Keep your updates coming, ladies!

Uhh. My cold just won’t go away, and I feel awful. Last night I wanted to shampoo *terribly* but I managed to hold off. And actually, the White Rain volume stuff I used was lovely, it did leave me feeling clean.

But I feel more and more like I need to figure out some time when I can use a light shampoo to clear out build-up. I used to used Neutrogena’s deep cleansing stuff every two weeks to clear out all the gunk, but now I realize that stuff’s way too strong. Maybe some baby shampoo once a month? How else am I going to get rid of hairspray build-up?

This is still working for me, and I have noticed that when I feel product buildup, a longer rinse of the conditioner in cooler water does the trick.

Try some vinegar to cut product buildup- I have been CO washing for a while and 1 part apple cider vinegar to maybe 3 parts water, poured over my scalp after the conditioner, does it for me. Of course, I am hardcore anti-shampoo.

Leelee - I was just going to say that I’ve heard the same thing about vinegar. It’s supposed to be a great way to get rid of build-up - and cheap! The only thing is - does your hair smell funky afterwards?
