Oscar Style Wrap-Up
Monday, February 25th, 2008My thoughts on last night’s Oscar style: lots of red and lots of black. As for the awards themselves. Although Daniel Day Lewis was no surprise for Best Actor, he definitely deserved it. He was amazing in There Will Be Blood. Oh, and did anyone see Gary Busey heckling Ryan Seacrest, and molesting Jennifer Garner on the red carpet? Those are the sorts of moments you gotta live for.
Below are my picks for best dressed of the night. Agree? Disagree?

Anne Hathaway was a vision in red, and not only my favorite of all of the fiery hues on the carpet last night, but my downright favorite. She hit every note right in Marchesa. Lips were rosy, but subdued so as not to compete with the gown. Hair was sleek to balance out the exuberant embellishment on her dress. Gorgeous draping across the bust. Absolutely stunning.

I hate to give Jessica Alba my vote because she always seems to end up at these events, and I’m always wondering what she’s doing there when the epitome of her career thus far has been such classics as Honey and Fantastic Four.
But nevertheless, she always looks smashing, and last night was no exception. I have a personal weakness for purple (that was my wedding color), and it was such a welcome splash of color amidst the red and black. Love the braided hair, and the feathers she’s got going on around the chest. I think I’m so partial to fluff and pomp around the chest area because I am so modestly endowed myself, and love the idea of being able to artificially inflate yourself with the help of your clothes.
Oh, just realized why I love this dress so much. It’s by Marchesa, who also made Anne Hathaway’s dress.

Amy Adams‘ red hair looks great against her hunter green Proenza Schouler frock. Totally feeling the mermaid finish at the bottom, and the bustier top. I’m still trying to figure out a way I can do the bustier thing without looking like a hooker. It’s hard, y’all.

Seriously, you start to realize the injustice of life when you see someone like Cate Blanchett, who is currently as huge as a whale, look so drop-dead gorgeous and elegantly composed. Her makeup is natural looking matte skin with emphasis on the lashes to open up the eyes. The only part of this Dries Van Noten ensemble I’m a little ambivalent about is the necklace. While I love statement jewelry, I’m afraid it might have added too much clutter to the halter neckline of the dress. Love the earrings though.

The last shout-out I’d like to give is to Amy Ryan in Calvin Klein. The gown was so simple and chic. It teased the edge of boring except for that beautiful, restrained pleating going down the side. Really a quiet stunner.
US Weekly: Who Wore It Best?
Wednesday, February 20th, 2008This is a little silly, but every week, I make sure to go on to US Weekly’s website and exercise my right to vote on their Who Wore It Best page. Basically, a bunch of celebrities are caught - gasp - in the same outfits, and readers like ourselves can chime in to say who looked better than the others.

Well my vote this week definitely goes to Charlize. A lot of my female friends have girl-crushes on Charlize, and I never understood why until now. Love that hair with the headband. I think this is supposed to be a grungy day for her, but she looks absolutely effortless and amazing. If only our ugly days were half as great as Charlize’s…sigh.
Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue
Tuesday, February 5th, 2008When I saw this, I immediately thought: now this is the way you do it.

I’m usually all for the natural beauty, but there’s something about the girl who tries. Nails perfectly painted, lips meticulously drawn on, face beautifully powdered. A total woman and totally unapologetic about it. Love it love it love it.

I’m feeling the soft colors (both on the face and on the clothes) juxtaposed against the perfect hair that looks sculpted yet soft.
The clothes were all exclusively designed by John Galliano for Dior. From left to right: Emily Blunt, Amy Adams, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway, Alice Braga, Ellen Page, Zoe Saldana, Elizabeth Banks, Ginnifer Goodwin and America Ferrera.
Sal Masakala Hearts Boots
Friday, February 1st, 2008I love Sal Masakala of E!’s Daily 10. And apparently Sal loves Boots. Here he is in the Boots Lounge at Sundance sniffing at a jar of Boots Botanics Body Souffle.
He seems so nice, doesn’t he? At least as far as I can tell from the show. I can just imagine one of the Boots people asking for a photograph and Sal gamely obliging.
“Take a whiff, Sal. Come on. One sniff.”
Or as in the movie, Lost in Translation, “More…intensity!!”
Love It or Hate It?
Monday, January 28th, 2008Sandra Oh at the SAG Awards wearing a traditional Korean dress-inspired gown. What do you think of the look? I personally love it. It’s a really joyful dress. Her hair and makeup are impeccably reigned in to balance out the volume of the gown.

Angelina Jolie at the SAG Awards
Monday, January 28th, 2008Ok, someone’s pregnant.
But maternity speak aside, Angelina looks fantastic — natural-looking skin, slightly shimmering nude eye and a sweep of transparent gloss on the lips. I don’t know what it is — motherhood or entering her 30s or the UN or Brad Pitt — but one or all of these things has been very good for her.
